Montville Sophomore Places High in NY Cross Country Classic

Cassandra Harasts came in first for girls in her age group and seventh overall for girls.

National Masters USATF 5K XC Championship and NJ USATF Open/Masters 5K XC Championships both took place at Deer Path Park in Readington last Sunday and one local girl from Pine Brook did her hometown proud.

Cassandra Harasts, 15, a sophomore at Montville High School, competed in the USATF NJ Championship and placed seventh overall for girls, first for girls in her age group and 53rd overall.

Her time was 18:47.77 and her pace was 6:03 per mile

“The course was very fast since there has not been much rain but it was very windy which made some parts of the course challenging,” said Angelo Harasts. “The race was very competitive with athletes from NJ/NY/PA. She was very happy with her race and the battles from many of the competitors in the race. She hopes this is a sign that she will be ready to run well later in November and at the National Championship in December.”
