Bathroom Bomb Threat Evacuates Montville High

Students returned to the high school after police determined there was no threat.

Montville High School was evacuated Friday afternoon "due to a message discovered on a bathroom door," according to Montville Police Capt. Rudy Appelmann, adding that the incident is still being investigated.

When police arrived, they were directed to the bathroom and "school officials had already evacuated the building upon our arrival, and were in the process of relocating students and staff," Appelmann said.

Officers secured the scene "according to departmental protocols and requested the assistance of the Morris County Sheriff’s K-9 unit, bomb squad and investigators from the Morris County Prosecutors Office."

School officials helped to search the school.

"Once it was determined there was no threat, the staff and students returned to the building without further incident," said Appelmann, adding that Montville detectives are working closely with members of the Morris County Prosecutor’s office to determine the origin of the threat.
