Montville BOE Members Sworn In

Karen Cortellino, Charles Grau take oath of office at board's reorganization meeting.

Two re-elected Montville Township Board of Education members were sworn in during the board's reorganization meeting Monday. Dr. Karen Cortellino and Charles Grau took the Oath of Office before joining their colleagues on the dais at the Montville Township Municipal Building to select a board president and vice president. Cortellino was unanimously selected to continue serving as president and Dr. Matthew Kayne was unanimously selected to continue serving as vice president. "It's an honor and a privilege," Kayne said after being congratulated. Cortellino also expressed gratitude. "I just want to thank my fellow board members for your confidence, your support and your friendship," she said. Grau said he looks forward to another term working…

Montville Goes Back to School

New and Veteran Teachers Prep for School Year

Montville schools have 20 new faculty members this year. The new teachers had orientation on Wednesday and the first day for all teachers was Thursday. The first day included a viewing of "Race to Nowhere," a documentary about the pressures students face, which Board of Education President Karen Cortellino said prompted good discussion among the faculty. A student music group that performed at the start of the session lifted the spirits of everybody in the room, and Superintendent Paul Fried did a wonderful job arranging the program, she said. BOE President: Assistant Principal Will Be Missed

Wall becomes Butler High School principal, starting July.

Whoever takes Martin Wall’s place as assistant principal of Montville Township High School is going to have big shoes to fill according to Board of Education President Dr. Karen Cortellino. “Marty is a great guy and a wonderful administrator,” Cortellino said. “We are very happy for him, and we’ll definitely miss him in the district.” Wall was recently announced as the new principal of Butler High School. He will replace principal William Hanisch, who retires in June. Wall’s appointment officially begins July 22 or sooner. Montville BOE President, VP Re-Appointed

Board announces new varsity coaches, updates to world languages program proposal.

The president and vice president of the Montville Township Board of Education were re-appointed during the board’s annual organization meeting Tuesday night. After being nominated and unanimously appointed president, Karen Cortellino took a moment to thank the board members for their “vote of confidence” and then turned her praise to the community members seated in the audience for passing the budget on April 27. “You can’t imagine how pleased we were the night of the vote,” Cortellino said. “We were jumping for joy like kids in a candy store.” Matthew Kayne was subsequently elected for another term as the board’s vice president.
