Valley View Receives iPad Grant

Third, fourth and fifth graders to use iPads.

Under the direction of Reading Specialist Sheila Frye and fourth-grade teachers Sandy Minder and Cortney Stephenson (not pictured), Valley View School in Montville has received an iPad grant from the Montville Educational Foundation (MEF). Students in third, fourth, and fifth grade will use the iPads in all curricular areas to enhance student performance and academic engagement. “It’s always a pleasure to work with our teachers who choose to utilize out-of-the-box thinking to add that something extra to help educate our children,” MEF President Michael Abramson said.  For more information about the MEF, visit www.MEFGrants.com.

Where In Montville?

Where In Montville: Museum, Valley View

Built in 1867, the museum building has served as school, Methodist Episcopal meeting place, temperance headquarters, town hall and post office.

As for last week's clowns, Mr. Weiss correctly guessed they were part of a basketball type of game on a playground. He guessed Woodmont. Close! Saw these clowns at Valley View. I offered the clue "How Sherlock Holmes solves his cases," which is, of course, elementary—…

Watching a Wave of Fitness

Exercise US, in its third year, was started by Valley View physical education teacher Len Saunders.

Valley View School fifth-graders exercised from 8 to 8:15 a.m. As they finished their jumping jacks, stretches and calisthenics, students at another school started their own 15-minute exercise session. Schools from across the country signed up for slots to keep a 10-hour, nonstop wave of  exercise going across the country. The annual Exercise US relay, in its third year, is conducted the first Thursday of October. It is the creation of Len Saunders, a Valley View physical education teacher and the author of "Keeping Kids Fit." He also started Project ACES, for All Children Exercise Simultaneously, which takes place the first Wednesday of May. "It will keep going now like a ripple effect through the whole entire day," Saunders said Thursday…
