Hamilton Place man was sitting in car when a person attempted to open door, police said.
Two new-model cars were stolen from Pine Brook residences last weekend leaving Montville Township police to investigate whether the vehicle thefts are connected. Both of the vehicles were taken overnight from Saturday into Sunday, Capt. Rudy Appelmann said. One of the vehicles, a black, four-door 2012 Acura, was taken from Tudor Place between 11 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Appelman said. The owner of the car told officers the keys were not inside the vehicle, but Appelmann was unsure whether the car was locked. That same night, between 6 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. Sunday, a grey, 2013 Jeep Cherokee was reported stolen from the parking lot of the 4100 building at Rachel Gardens. Montville Township police are investigating the apparent burglary of a Pine Brook apartment in which a purse and credit cards were reported stolen on Jan. 16. Capt. Rudy Appelmann said the value of the purse is about $200, including items inside that were taken. Police responded to Rachel Gardens to investigate and Appelmann said officers saw pry marks on the front door of the apartment. The purse appeared to be the only thing missing from the residence and the residents said they were out of the apartment for about an hour between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Chase Bank had contacted the resident whose purse was taken to alert her of suspicious charges on her credit card. 15-year-old transferred to St. Barnabas burn unit after colliding with car at Rachel Gardens.
A 15-year-old Pine Brook resident suffered "severe" burn injuries after his moped burst into flames following a crash Wednesday night, according to police. The teen, whose name was not released, was transferred to the burn unit at St. Barnabas Hospital, in Livingston, after being initially transported to Morristown Medical Center by the Montville Township Volunteer First Aid Squad. Montville Township police responded to the Rachel Gardens apartment complex, in Pine Brook, around 8:20 p.m. where a 20-year-old Parsippany man said he was driving his car around a corner when the moped allegedly struck his vehicle.
