Car Smashed Into Vacant Pine Brook Building

Driver transported to hospital following Thursday morning crash.

A driver was transported to St. Clare's Hospital Thursday morning after Montville Township police Capt. Rudy Appelmann said he crashed into the building at 55 Route 46 in Pine Brook. Appelmann said the driver, who was not named, was traveling west on Route 46 around 11 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the median, driving into the building near Tiffany's Restaurant. The building at 55 Route 46 is currently vacant, Appelmann said. The Montville Township Volunteer First Aid Squad responded to the scene to transport the driver to the hospital. No other injuries were reported, although the building was damaged.

Ambulance Upgrades to Be Displayed During Open House

Montville Township Volunteer First Aid Squad invites public to tour squad house.

The Montville Township Volunteer First Aid Squad will display upgrades to one of its ambulances when it arrives during an open house on Oct. 27. The open house will be held at the squad house, 137 Changebridge Road, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees will be able to learn about the squad's equipment, volunteers and vehicles. Tours of the squad house will be offered and light refreshments will be served. Read about some of Montville's volunteer responders here.

Dog Killed in Weekend Blaze

Towaco residential fire still under investigation.

Montville Township police and fire officials are still investigating an early morning residential fire on Waughaw Road Saturday that took the life of a family's dog. Police said responders from the Towaco, Pine Brook, Montville and Lincoln Park fire departments arrived at the home at 22 Waughaw Road around 1:50 a.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the second floor. Six occupants of the home were found on the first floor of the home and brought out safely. However, police said, a small, older dog died from smoke inhalation. When police officers arrived on the scene, they had attempted to enter the second floor of the home, but were unable due to the heavy smoke and flames.
