Montville teachers will received 2.5 percent increase this year, but agreed on health plan that will significantly save district money.
After more than a year of negotiating, the Montville Township Board of Education voted to ratify a new contract with the Montville Township Education Association (MTEA) Tuesday night. The contract, of which the actual document is still being finalized, is the first in the district's history which combines teachers, custodial and maintenance employees and paraprofessionals. "This result was a long time coming," Board Vice President Dr. Matthew Kayne, who helped lead the negotiations on part of the board, said. The previous contract expired on June 30, 2011. Under the new contract, Kayne said employees agreed to have salaries frozen for the time period covering July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. The employees will, however, see salary …

Salary guides agreed on, contract language under review for faculty and staff.
A union representative for the Montville Township Education Association (MTEA) said she expects a new contract to be ratified with the Montville Township Board of Education by the end of the month. Union members, including teachers, secretaries, custodians and other district employees, have been working under an expired contract for more than a year as negotiations have continued. The board of education and MTEA reached a tentative agreement in August and salary guides were submitted to both parties for review in October. The Montville Township Education Association (MTEA) could be close to having a new contract ratified as a union representative said she expects the negotiations to come to a conclusion by the end of the month. "The salary guides have been developed and submitted to the board for them to review. We are hoping the parties will ratify before the end of the month," Vickie Walsh, a New Jersey Education Association field representative who is representing the MTEA said Thursday. Union representative said negotiations have been more amicable than in years past.
After more than a year of negotiating, the Montville Township Education Association (MTEA) and Montville Township Board of Education have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract, according to a union representative. New Jersey Education Association Field Representative Vickie Walsh, who is representing the MTEA, said the parties met through the night from Aug. 30 through Aug. 31 and at the conclusion of the meeting reached the agreement. However, the salary guide included in the new contract has not yet been established and as such, Walsh said the details of the contract are not able to be discussed publicly. Union representative, superintendent said new date has been scheduled for parties to meet with mediator.
Despite more than 100 teachers lining the property of the Montville Township Public Schools Board of Education Thursday, the Montville Township Education Association contract has still not been settled. However, the school district superintendent and union representative have both confirmed that a new date has been established in August for the parties to once again meet with the state-appointed mediator who came to Montville Thursday. Teachers dressed in red carried signs reading "Settle Now" beginning at about 4 p.m. Thursday in a demonstration to "greet the mediator." More than a hundred Montville Township Education Association (MTEA) members dressed in red lined the property of the board of education office Thursday in a demonstration urging board members to settle their contract. MTEA Officer Anne Simon said the members were at the office, on River Road, to "greet" the state-appointed mediator who was scheduled to meet with board members and union representatives Thursday evening. "What's happening today is we're here to greet the mediator since, unfortunately, we haven't been able to reach an agreement with the board," she said. If they froze the entire compensation pool then they had to freeze all the salaries. Teachers do not get automatic advancement on the salary guide the way police and fire do when there is no new contract in place.   more ›
