Home Depot bringing more than 30 volunteers to Passaic Valley Road to renovate old house.
Three local groups will come together under one roof after renovations to the "little house" at 91 Passaic Valley Road are complete. In the meantime, volunteers from Home Depot are planning to help speed up the process by donating time and materials to complete the renovations. The house, originally built in the 1940s, was situated on a horse farm. It is located next to a barn often used by the Montville Township Recreation Department for programs and events after it was purchased by the township nearly 15 years ago. At one point, the space was also used by the Montville Township Board of Education for special services. Organic-only Indian Lane East garden may inspire more community gardens in Montville.
Montville’s second community garden is well underway this summer, with nearly 24 self-made growers contributing to the effort on Indian Lane East. Jim Muhaw, the liaison between the Indian Lane East community garden and Montville Township Recreation Department, said the organic-only garden was formed last spring based on an idea he had. “I had an idea that was mulling around in my brain a couple years ago to look at another piece of land in order to develop that into a more year-round garden with a focus on the organic guidelines,” he said. Instrumentalists play classic favorites as crowd hums along at Montville amphitheater.
The Jacksonville Chapel Concert Band kicked off the Montville Township Recreation Department's summer concert series Thursday night. The band of more than two dozen instrumentalists performed classic songs, such as "God Bless America" and "The Sound of Music," at the amphitheater behind Montville Township High School. Township to host cleanup on April 21.

Montville Township will be celebrating Earth Day on April 21 with a township-wide spring cleanup. But even though the date is still a few weeks away, the township is asking interested participants to sign up no later than this Friday. The cleanup, which involves public roads and parks, will begin at 9 a.m. at the municipal building and could last between one and three hours. Prior to the cleanup, refreshments will be served at 8 a.m. Registration is required so that participants can be grouped together for the cleanup and given a specific area to clean.
