Development Still Sought for Pine Brook Site

Mixed use zoning ordinance change could attract more developers, township says.

Montville Township is still working to attract new business to the former G.I. Auto site in Pine Brook. The township's Economic Development Committee has been working for nearly a year to come up with a way to attract a developer to the site. Last summer, home improvement chain Lowe's was working through the township approval process to place a 137,000-square foot store and garden center on the lot, but pulled out of the project after it was announced Lowe's would be closing some existing stores. Recently, the Montville Township Planning Board has reviewed an amendment to the zoning ordinance for the property and the township committee also introduced an ordinance to support the amendment, according to Township Administrator Victor Canning…

What Would You Like to See at Towaco Crossing?

Economic Development Committee hoping to collect resident input.

The ground has been broken at Towaco Crossing and several developments are already underway, including the 18,000-foot Rails Steakhouse restaurant. Developers are hoping to attract six retail businesses (in addition to six residential units) at the project site at the Towaco train station. But the township's Economic Development Committee (EDC) is interested in hearing what residents feel should be developed there. Montville Township Committeeman Jim Sandham, liaison to the EDC, told the committee at the May 22 meeting that the EDC had met with a few developers who inquired about the interests of the residents.
