Construction work pushed back to spring as township seeks lower cost.
Some residents in the Pine Brook neighborhood have been waiting months for a permanent solution for the dead end on Maple Avenue to be agreed on. Now, as prep work was expected to begin, township officials are planning to push back work to the spring. Township Admnistrator Victor Canning said on Nov. 13 that the township should delay the project because of Superstorm Sandy. "My suggestion is it would be something we would address in the springtime at this point," he said. Currently, temporary barriers block off the roadway where residents had complained motorists were speeding through the neighborhood to cut through between Route 80 and Route 46. Committee still seeking input from two affected property owners.
The Montville Township Committee has chosen a design for construction of a permanent cul-de-sac on Maple Avenue and is planning to move forward with the project as soon as possible. But the township is still working on, as it has been for the past several months, getting input from two property owners whose accessways will be affected by the new construction. The committee was presented with two design plans Tuesday evening: one that included three-point turn legs and another that did not. With the plan that was chosen by the majority of commmittee members, a cul-de-sac without three-point turn legs will be constructed. The alternate accessways for both 10 Maple Avenue and 34 Maple Avenue would be relocated, requiring the approval of the …

Township committee invited affected residents to participate at meeting.
The Montville Township Committee will be continuing discussion on the construction of a permanent dead end on Maple Avenue, in Pine Brook, Tuesday. Township officials sent a letter on Aug. 20 to residents who live in the area near where the dead end would be constructed, inviting them to attend and participate at the committee's public meeting Tuesday at 8 p.m. The committee has been discussing the cul-de-sac since at least March after receiving input from residents who claimed safety was a concern in the area because of motorists traveling through the neighborhood to cut through between Route 80 and Route 46. A traffic study was conducted in the neighborhood and found that cars do often travel at high rates of speed through the streets. …
