Updated: Lowe's Scraps Rt. 46 Plan

Proponents of the home improvement store said it would have created jobs, brought in tax revenue and cleaned up a junkyard.

A plan by Lowe's to build a 137,000-square-foot home improvement store plus a garden center on the site of a junkyard on westbound Route 46 in Montville has been scrapped, the company said. A planner for Lowe's e-mailed the town last month saying the company was backing off its plan to build, Mayor Jim Sandham said. Sandham said the e-mail from Lowe's didn't give a clear reason for the change of course. He said Montville officials would be seeing if anything can be done to save the project. A spokeswoman for Lowe's on Friday said the project is off. "Lowe’s has decided not to move forward with store development in this town," Stacey C. Lentz said Friday. Transparency Plan Presented to Township Committee

Traffic concerns due to a proposed Lowe's were also discussed.

A presentation focusing on increased transparency at committee meetings was made at the Tuesday night Montville Township Committee meeting. The committee aims to soon make all supporting documents, except those that must be withheld for legal reasons, available to the public on the committee website prior to every meeting, as well as projecting supporting documents with two separate projectors during each meeting. The project will also lead to an entirely paperless committee, and according to Committeeman Scott Gallopo, the goal is to go paperless by Sept. 1 and to have all documents embedded into the agenda on the committee website by June. “The bottom line is that everyone will have access to everything we have up on the dais,” Gallopo …
