Have local and national incidents caused parents to be more cautious in recent years?
Parents trust many people with their kids throughout the courses of their lives, between teachers, coaches, religious leaders and more. But over the past two decades, some of the people who have held these roles have been accused of violating that trust and the children they spend time with. While incidents are not frequently reported, parents have been shocked and saddened when cases of abuse or sexual assault occur. A total of five victims have now come forward, accusing Jason Fennes of sexual assault.
Two more students have recently come forward, accusing their former William Mason School first-grade teacher of sexual assault, according to affidavits on file with the Morris County Court. Jason Fennes, 37, of Bloomfield, who has been jailed since March, now faces additional charges for an alleged sexual relationship with a Butler High School track athlete he coached in the mid-'90s and for allegedly sexually assaulting two William Mason first-grade students during the 2006-07 school year. A former Montville first-grade teacher who has been jailed on charges he allegedly sexually assaulted two of his students has now been accused of having a sexual relationship with a Butler High School track athlete he coached at the school in the mid-'90s, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said Saturday. According to a statement released by Capt. Jeffrey Paul, a spokesman for Prosecutor Robert A. A former Montville teacher who was charged in March with sexual assault of two child victims was served with new charges Thursday that relate to a third victim between the ages of 13 and 16 years old, according to a Morris County Superior Court clerk. The new charges were filed out of Parsippany. Jason Fennes, a former first-grade teacher at the William Mason School, was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault on an individual between the ages of 13 and 16 and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. A little over two months ago, former Montville teacher Jason Fennes was charged with sexual assault after allegedly abusing two child victims. While a spokesman for the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said last week there are no new details to be released on the cases, Montville Township Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Paul Fried said school district employees have become more in touch with what constitutes inappropriate behavior since the March arrests. One parent whose daughter was a student of a former Montville first-grade teacher accused of sexual assault said she witnessed the teacher holding hands with students, but was stunned by last week's charges. A former Montville first-grade teacher faces additional sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child charges after a second victim came forward this week, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said Saturday morning. Former Montville Township teacher Jason Fennes has denied charges he sexually abused a first-grade student in his class in 2005 and the charges might be related to separate false rumors that were spread through Montville a few years ago and cleared by a Division of Youth and Family Services investigation, Fennes' attorney told a judge Wednesday, according to a report on NJ.com.
