Gencarelli's Welcomes Families to Eat-In

Pizza shop expands dining experience with seated restaurant area.

Adding a dining room to Gencarelli's pizzeria was always part of the family's plan since the establishment was first opened in 1982 by Antonia and Carlo Gencarelli. Now run and co-owned by their son, Guy Gencarelli, daughter, Julianna Coppola, and son-in-law, Michael Coppola, Gencarelli's has been able to bring the expanded restaurant plan to reality. Gencarelli's, located at 1 Hook Mountain Road, in Pine Brook, expanded its space by about 2,000 square feet after taking over the deli next door and re-naming in Paesano's. Previously, seating was limited inside the pizza restaurant. Paesano's continued to operate as a deli for years before its closing in February for the construction of the dining room. Paesano's Closes to Make Way for Gencarelli's

An Italian restaurant and pizzeria in Pine Brook is expanding into space that was used as a deli.

Some people seeking sandwiches and salads from Paesano's Deli in the past couple of weeks have noticed the Pine Brook shop is closed. Its neighbor, Gencarelli's Ristorante & Pizzeria, is still open and will be expanding into the Paesano's space to improve the Gencarelli's dining experience and to expland the kitchen to handle more catering, according to Guy Gencarelli, an owner of both establishments. Gencarelli said the renovation will be complete in April and cited good business at Gencarelli's as one of the reasons for the change. While Gencarelli's remains open for business, in about a month it too will close for approximately three weeks as the renovation is completed, he said. Gencarelli's Sticks With Family Recipes Over 30 Years

'If it ain't broke, don't fix it,' Guy Gencarelli says.

Popular dishes at Gencarelli's Ristorante & Pizzeria off Route 46 in the Pine Brook section of Montville include Chicken Dominick, Penne alla Gencarelli and "square pies"—pizzas baked in pans to give them a nice crunch, owner Guy Gencarelli said. Gencarelli's parents opened the restaurant in 1982 and operated it 22 years before their kids took over. Many of the recipes have stayed the same. "Basically, anything we gained from our parents we kept unchanged," Gencarelli said. They use quality ingredients and always make everything fresh, he said.
