GardenSK8 Set for Graffiti Art Show—Again

Event to reopen the skate park after Hurricane Irene flooding scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday after being postponed by freak snow storm.

A fundraising art show to help a Pine Brook indoor skate park rebuild after Hurricane Irene flooding was postponed by another weather event—last Saturday's freak October snow storm. After Hurricane Irene flooded GardenSK8 on Changebridge Road with 2 feet of water, owner Todd Schwartz decided to hold an art show and auction on Halloween weekend to raise funds for reconstruction and to officially reopen the park. The art show was scheduled for last Saturday, but the snow storm downed trees and wires throughout the town and northern New Jersey, causing widespread power outages and road closures. GardenSK8 Turns to Art to Rebuild After Flood

The indoor skate park on Changebridge Road was flooded with 2 feet of water after Hurricane Irene.

A welcome sound came from the Pirate Bowl at GardenSK8 indoor skate park on Saturday after weeks of quiet in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene—the sound of a skateboarder riding in it. The skate park on Changebridge Road in the Pine Brook section of the township was flooded with 2 feet of water after the storm. The flood damaged the sheetrock walls, and murals by leading graffiti artists that adorned the walls had to be ripped down. Metal transition strips rusted. The retail shop was dismantled entirely. Owner Todd Schwartz had to cancel camp sessions and refund tuition.
