Alleged Drunk Driver Honks Horn, Attracts Cops

The following arrest information was supplied by the Parsippany Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A Pine Brook man was arrested by Parsippany Police Saturday for allegedly driving while intoxicated. John A. Olstrom, 31, might have eluded arrest if he had kept his hands off of his car horn. Police said Officer Michael Sprung was patrolling Sylvan Way at about 3:18 a.m. when he reportedly heard a horn blaring from a 2000 Honda traveling west on Sylvan at a high rate of speed. Sprung pulled the car over and subsequently arrested Olstrom for DWI. The man later received summonses for DWI and for careless driving.  In another incident, officials say a 45-year-old Parsippany man landed a DWI charge after allegedly hitting a curb with his van and leaving the scene. At about 10:34 p.m. Sunday, police received a report that a vehicle had left an…

Montville High student actors, video crew and local public safety officials show peers the results of a DWI crash.

Blood dripped down the arm of a teen who was hanging through the broken windshield of a car that had apparently crashed head-on with a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the parking lot of Montville Township High School Wednesday. The blood was not real and neither was the accident, but it looked real and high school administrators, local police, EMS and fire officials wanted the experience to feel real for the high school students who attended a surprise assembly Wednesday to see the real-life potential consequences of an alcohol-related crash. Student actors Heidi Avrov, John Kaplan and Jamie Schwartz portrayed being in a vehicle with a driver who had had a couple of drinks before getting behind the wheel and crashing with a Jeep being driven by a …
