Coyotes Spotted by Kanouse Lane Resident, Cops Say

Coyotes in Montville 'not unusual,' but could become an issue if they are near people.

Montville police responded to a call from a Kanouse Lane resident who said they saw coyotes near their home Tuesday morning. The call came in around 8 a.m. While it was not confirmed that the animals the resident saw were, in fact, coyotes, or how many there were, Capt. Rudy Appelmann said residents have been known to confuse coyotes with other animals. "More than likely, it was a fox," he said. This is not the first time a resident said they saw a coyote in Montville. Last year, Appelmann said police responded to a report of coyote sightings near Pyramid Mountain. When asked whether coyote sightings are common for this area, Appelman said "it's not normal, but it's not unusual. They avoid people." Coyotes mostly poke around garbage, …
