Man has agreed to pay $2 million in overtime back wages and $1 million in damages to hundreds, the U.S. Department of Labor announced.
A Madison man has agreed to pay $2 million in overtime back wages and $1 million in damages to employees at gas stations he owns throughout New Jersey, including one in Pine Brook, the U.S. Labor Department announced Thursday. The Shell station 287 Changebridge Road is included in the settlement. The agreement involves 417 workers at 72 gas stations owned by Waseem Chaudhary. Employees often worked up to 84 hours per week but did not receive earned overtime pay, a department news release said. The agreement was reached after the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division found violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which requires that covered, nonexempt employees be paid one-and-a-half times their regular rates for hours worked…

Police said no one was injured in crash.
A car traveling south on Route 202 allegedly crashed into a tractor-trailer turning off of Changebridge Road Tuesday afternoon, causing traffic to back up on Changebridge. Montville Township Police Ptl. Brian Leech said three cars were involved in the crash that happened at about 3:15 p.m. Leech said one car was traveling north on Route 202 while the other was traveling south. The driver of the vehicle traveling south attempted to make a lefthand turn on to Changebridge Road, Leech said, but allegedly failed to yield to the right of way. No injuries were reported in the crash and Leech said no one has been issued summonses at this point. Montville police are warning motorists to expect some traffic delays over the next week on Changebridge Road, near the Route 80 bridge, beginning on Thursday. Montville Township Police Capt. Ed Rosellini said construction activities are taking place on the road and motorists are instead advised to use Horseneck Road to Hook Mountain Road as a detour. Starting Thursday, work will commence from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Traffic will be limited to one lane during these times.

Crash occurred Thursday afternoon in front of Montville Bagels & Delicatessen.
Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident in front of Montville Bagels & Delicatessen on Changebridge Road Thursday afternoon. The accident was reported shortly before 2:30 p.m., police said. The accident scene was cleared by about 3:15 p.m., police said. The two injured were transported to Morristown Medical Center. The extent of their injuries was not immediately know. The accident remains under investigation, police said.

Relative said Pine Brook resident is staying with her daughter after blaze destroys home.
A relative of the woman whose Changebridge Road home of four decades was burned in a fire Monday said Emma English was released from the hospital Monday afternoon after being transported there for evaluation following the fire. Ali Merbouti, the boyfriend of English's niece, said she was released and was staying with her daughter, but he could not comment on her condition. Volunteer firefighters from several departments worked for about an hour to extinguish the fire which had the home fully engulfed in flames when they arrived on the scene. Police were not available to comment Tuesday on the cause of the fire. Patch will have updates on this story.

Resident taken to hospital following blaze that tore through Pine Brook residence.
A woman who lived alone in a Changebridge Road home was taken to a hospital to be evaluated after a fire on Monday morning tore through the two-story building where she lived for four decades, family members and a fire official said. The woman, Emma English, lived in a home next to her brother and his family, and yelled to them there was a fire around 7 a.m., according to her brother, Raul Rodriguez. Rodriguez said his sister walked away from the fire and appeared to be all right. The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived minutes after the call came in, and volunteers worked for about an hour to extinguish the blaze, Pine Brook Fire Department Chief Herb Eggers said. Township committee rejects drafting ordinance to allow gas stations at Route 202, Changebridge Road intersection.
After more than two hours of public discussion on the topic Tuesday, the Montville Township Committee voted 3 to 2 against creating an ordinance that would amend the permitted land use at the intersection of Changebridge Road and Route 202. If passed, the purpose to allow gas stations to be developed on the property would have benefitted property owner William O'Dowd's intentions to develop a Quick Chek mega gas station and convenience store at the site. If O'Dowd wishes to proceed with the project, he will have to face the Zoning Board of Adjustment to discuss conditional uses or variances for the property.
