Police said oil was stored in box truck.
A 42-year-old Somerset man was charged with theft and criminal mischief on May 9 after Montville Township police said he was caught allegedly attempting to steal used cooking oil from Tiffany's on Route 46. Akim Brock was arrested on the charges and released with a summons after being transported to the Montville Township police station. Police said a company typically pays Tiffany's to recycle their used cooking oil. Police responded around 5:30 a.m. and believe Brock was trying to sell the oil. He allegedly had more used cooking oil stored in a box truck he had with him that had a pump attached. Each week, Patch takes a peek at some of the more surprising, shocking, stunning and occasionally silly police-related incidents reported throughout New Jersey for "OMGs from NJ PDs." On the Wrong Track: Contrary to popular belief, there is no "wrong side of the tracks." Well, not unless you count the top side. A driver who made a wrong turn wound up on the train tracks paralleling Route 17, leading authorities to shut down New Jersey Transit traffic on the line, according to Hasbrouck Heights Police. It took police about an hour to remove the vehicle from the tracks. We're not sure how long it took onlookers to remove their palms from their faces. A MHS freshman follows his father path in volunteering in the borough.
Nicholas Karr of Morris Plains is following in his father's footsteps in taking up volunteerism at an early age. Karr just joined the Morris Plains Fire Department as a junior member. His father, Jason Karr, started volunteering with the Morris Minute Men when he was only 16, and is now serving his fourth year as a borough councilman. Nicholas, 15, officially joined the fire department in April. Although his age prohibits him from going inside an actual fire, he is still able to stay outside and help with all the tools necessary to put the fire out, such as the hydrant. Junior firefighters in Morris Plains can start as young as 14, and once they're 18 they can get certification to fight the fires inside. Nicholas said he plans on staying …

Parsippany resident told authorities East Hanover man pulled out in front of her vehicle.
A business security camera's footage contradicts the account a Parsippany woman accused of being drunk when she struck and killed an East Hanover man gave to authorities immediately after the incident, an assistant Morris County prosecutor contended in court Tuesday morning. According to Assistant Prosecutor Kelley Lavery, footage from the camera shows Vanessa E. Brown driving southbound on Ridgedale Avenue in the left-hand lane and suddenly veering into the right lane and into Ralph Politi Jr., who was not in a vehicle. Her car continued another 88 feet when it crashed into nearby parked cars, Lavery said. "There was no indication of turn signalling," Lavery told Judge Salem Ahto. "There was no braking." The surveillance tape contradicts …

Each week, Patch takes a peek at some of the more surprising, shocking, stunning and occasionally silly police-related incidents reported throughout New Jersey for "OMGs from NJ PDs." Big Wheels Keep on Turning: A runaway van veered into oncoming traffic on the White Horse Pike, crashed against a guard rail and nearly struck a small gathering of people at the edge of Newton Lake in Camden County (our title for this section would have worked better if it was a river onto which the van was almost rollin'). Amazingly, no one was hurt, but police say an intoxicated driver may have been asleep at the wheel. At Least it Wasn't a Cow: Scotch Plains Police say a horse escaped from Watchung Stables. After a brief chase, he was cornered by Scotch …
Parsippany resident charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter, bail increased.
A Parsippany woman who was allegedly drunk when she struck and killed an East Hanover man before crashing into parked cars over the weekend now faces a first-degree aggravated manslaughter charge, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said Monday. Vanessa E. Brown, 32, had been charged on Sunday with second-degree vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain her lane, driving with unsafe tires and driving an unregistered vehicle. Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi has replaced the vehicular homicide charge with first-degree aggravated manslaughter, which carries up to a 30-year sentence, according to Capt. Jeffrey Paul, a spokesman for Bianchi. "Based upon the available investigative …

The police found her car crashed with the airbags deployed, but the driver had fled the scene.
A Dover woman was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when she drove the wrong way on Interstate 287, crashed her vehicle in Parsippany and fled the scene before being apprehended early Sunday morning, State Police said. Natasha Salazar, 19, was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to report an accident, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, obstructing the passage of other motor vehicles, willful abandonment and other lesser motor vehicle offenses, according to State Trooper Christopher Kay, of the Netcong barracks. According to Kay, troopers received a call after midnight that a car was traveling north on the southbound lanes of Interstate 287. The troopers found the car …
