Montville Relay for Life Seeks Committee Members, Volunteers

This is the sixth year of Montville's Relay for Life and to keep it going each year successfully, the relay depends on a core group of people and volunteers who make up the relay committee. 

This year, they're pushing for new dedicated faces to join. 

"One of the things that we try to look for is … to expand the committee and bring in new ideas," said Mary Osborne-Marrero, committeewoman.  

“We need support people, chair people, we need them all. The more people we have, the bigger the event,” said Committee Chair Terry Becker. "Part of what we need to think about this year for relay is a succession plan. We need more people. We need people with new ideas, new energy."

Becker added that those looking to step up shouldn’t be scared.

“This doesn’t have to be a big commitment. People can make it what they want it to be,” said Becker. “The people who are here now doing their sixth relay is a testament to that. They’re real all-doers. Everyone in this committee has taken on a tremendous amount of responsibility.” 

“Terry is a wonderful example,” said Osborne-Marrero. “She’s our No. 1 fundraiser as well as chairing.”

“Like Mary, I have a lot of skin in the game. I know a lot of people with cancer in their lives. It’s what I like to do,” said Becker. "Mary and I have both been on the committee since the beginning."

Whether you're looking to take a big bite out of the volunteering cookie or a small one, they're looking for "any level of committment," said Becker. 

Those interested in more information or looking to help out a little or a lot should go to the committee’s next meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Montville Senior House.

Relay for Life of Montville will take place at MTHS on June 7 from noon – midnight.  Join Relay for Life of Montville Committee, form a team and register for the event.
