Montville's July Fourth Fireworks Set

Display at Community Park is scheduled for the end of June.

Montville's 2013 July Fourth fireworks display is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at Community Park.

An announcement on the township website bills the show as "the region's premier fireworks display" and a "signature community event."

Parking is $5, and proceeds will benefit the Montville Baseball & Softball Association and the Montville Police Explorers, according to a flier for the event. The rain date is Sunday, June 30.

While this year's celebration has been scaled back to just the fireworks display, "full festival activities will return in 2014 including concessions, entertainment & rides!"

Traditionally a three-day event, the celebration was limited this year because the Montville Township 4th of July Committee Inc. "is no longer ... a viable corporation."

"Garden State Fireworks is already preparing an impressive display, for which Montville Township is known for far and wide," a notice on the township website says, "and once a new organization is formed, we look forward to the return of the weekend-long celebration in 2014."

The Township Committee approved a resolution authorizing a $30,000 contract with Garden State Fireworks in February.  The governing body approved another resolution authorizing the June 29 display at its meeting on Tuesday.
