O'Reilly Earns Tournament MVP Honors

Boys basketball wins Butler Holiday Tournament.

Sophomore Katie O'Reilly finished with a game-high 12 points and was awarded tournament MVP honors as she led the girls basketball team to the Marauder Tournament title Wednesday with a 41-35 win over Mount Olive.

The win was highlighted by eight Mustang scorers and an impressive defensive effort in the second quarter, as Montville limited Mt. Olive to just one-point and headed into halftime leading 17-15.

Despite being outscored 12-8 in the third quarter, Montville dominated the final frame, outscoring Mt. Olive 16-8 and surging to the holiday tourney title.

With the win, O’Reilly & Co. improved to 4-1 this season, while Mt. Olive fell to 1-4.

Tom Przetak drained four shots from beyond the arc for a team-high 15 points and Marc Przetak finished with 13 points to help the Montville boys basketball team cruise to its fifth consecutive win of the season with a 60-47 over Butler on Thursday in the final of the Butler Holiday Tournament in Butler.

An injury to Butler’s leading scorer James Spadaccini in the first quarter helped Montville in the tourney finals, as Spadaccini was rendering him scoreless for the first time this season.

But the real story on Wednesday was the three Mustang players to post double-digit scoring efforts and the seven Montville scorers. In addition to the Przetak’s combined 28 points, Montville saw Danny Weiss finish with 10 points and Matt Cohen with eight.

Nick Ballistreri and Nick Dalpan picked up the slack for Butler, combining for 29 points in the loss.

Ice Hockey Falls

The Montville ice hockey team fell to Red Bank, 5-3, in the consolation round of the Bridgewater Tournament on Thursday, according to NJ.com.
