Montville Boys Medal in Five at Dodgertown Relays

Boys team places sixth, girls come in ninth.

After a dreary day on Friday, temperatures jumped on Saturday in North Jersey giving Madison High School and its Dodgertown Relays the perfect weather for an event that attracted more than a dozen local high schools to compete in track and field events.

Summit High School finished first in all of the boys events, with Livingston in second and Nutley placing third. For the girls, Livingston finished first with Parsippany in second and Summit in third place.

Montville's boys team finished in sixth place and medaled in five different events, while the girls team finished in ninth place and medaled in three events.

"We did really well," Montville senior Stephanie Soni said. "A lot of our sprinters medaled and won their heats and our discus people did pretty well, too."

The Montville boys team was led by its shotput and discus teams, but also got a boost from its 4x800 relay team, which medaled in third place. Darren Schenk, Kevin Duffy, Andrew Tedeschi and senior Matthew Crossen helped the team medal in a hotly contested event. Only Mountain Lakes and Chatham finished better in the event.

"We were seeded third, we were right where we supposed to be," Crossen said. "And we all ran our best times. It was perfect, our handoffs were great."
