Fifth Grade students at William Mason Elementary School in Montville recently participated in the "Sustainable Science Fair."

Teacher Scott Brennan created the fair to raise awareness of the amount of waste he noticed throughout the last few years. Last year, he started teaching the students about topics like recycling, alternative energy, water bottles, styrofoam, etc. and noticed a great response: Students seemed very interested in the topics and made an effort to watch their own habits.

This year, he wanted to continue with the topics and incorporate a culminating project that students would enjoy creating. Mr. Brennan believes the idea of sustainability is incredibly important for students to understand. He gave students five project options and the rest was up to them.

"They created some excellent displays and products and really embraced the theme. I am very proud of what they did," he said.
