State Aid Use to Be Discussed at BOE Meeting

The school administration hopes to use state aid for property tax relief, but likely in future school years.

The deadline for school districts to set tax levies was originally set for 4 p.m. Tuesday, but the Daily Record reported Tuesday morning that the deadline has been extended after last week's .

Montville's school district has not yet had a board of education meeting since the aid was announced, but will hold one on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in the cafeteria of .

School business administrator Jim Tevis said that he and Superintendent Dr. Paul Fried will recommend that the board use the $638,716 increase in state aid for property tax relief in future budgets.

"Tax relief is tax relief is tax relief, whether in this school year or next year's budget," said Tevis.

But he added that he can't speak for the board.

The matter will be discussed at the board of education meeting at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
