Now Open: College Resource Room at High School

A room that had been used for storage was renovated as junior Kevin Lindert's Eagle Scout project.

Some colleges prefer having intimate information sessions with interested students over setting up booths at college fairs, which they see as more impersonal.

Until this year, never had a good place to hold such information sessions—and some colleges and universities declined attending the high school's career fair.

But this year, schools, including Princeton University, have been able to meet with groups of students in a new college resource room that was created by  Montville junior Kevin Lindert as his Eagle Scout project.

Georgetown and Harvard universites have signed up for next year.

Lindert over the summer renovated a room that had been used for storage by painting it, installing a new rug and constructing desks with the help of 35 fellow scouts, friends and donations from the Parent Teacher Council, Home Depot and Red Carpet. The donations totaled more than $1,200.

"It really was a tremendous contribution," principal Douglas Sanford said.

They also painted the nurse's office and installed new bulletin boards there.

School nurse June Witty said virtually every student and parent comes in contact with the nurse's office during the year, so it should look nice.

"The color is amazing," she said.

"It took us from the '70s to the year 2011," school nurse Caroline Moat said.
