There were also two cases involving weapons in the second half of last school year.

Twice a year a violence and vandalism report of the Montville School District is presented. The report covers the last six months, and at a previous school board meeting earlier this month, Superintendent Paul Fried gave a report that covered the second half of the 2012-13 school year.

There are five different categories:

  • Weapons
  • Substance Abuse
  • HIB or Bullying
Here's a look at how many confirmed cases occured in each category in the second half of the last school year.
  • For violence, there were eight cases
  • There were 11 cases of vandalism to different schools.
  • There were two cases involving weapons: for one case, a student had a box cutter and the second, a student had a pair of scissors in their possession. “Neither of those cases, those instruments were being used against anyone,” the students just had those items on them, said Fried.
  • For substance abuse, there were four cases and there were 15 confirmed cases of bullying.
  • There were four in-school suspensions: 3 at the high school and 1 at the middle school. There were also nine out-of-school suspensions, all at the high school.
