Montville School Admin Happy State Aid Was Not Reduced

As school district officials throughout the state digested state aid figures released Thursday, Montville Township Public Schools Business Administrator Jim Tevis noted that while the district saw only a slight increase, he was pleased that the number did not go down.

"I am happy that at least our state aid was not reduced in any way," Tevis said after confirming the district will receive exactly $1 more in state aid than it received in the 2012-13 school year.

More specifically, Montville will receive $1,755,583. Of that, $1,469,587 is designated for special education and $223,430 is designated for transportation.

The district has seen aid increase, even if by $1 this year, for the past three years after a significant drop in the 2010-11 school year in which the district lost nearly $3.2 million in state aid Montville had received the year prior, ending up with just over $31,000. But for the 2011-12 school year, the district began to see a return in aid when Montville received $670,000.

That same year, in July, applied to special education in the district, which brought the 2011-12 state aid total to $1,308,699 in Montville.

Last year, the district was able to use the increase it gained in state aid including activitiy fees for Montville Township High School clubs and student parking fees, and help fund the Rosetta Stone program.

The board of education will discuss what this year's aid will be used for at upcoming meetings.
