School Bus Route Changes Coming Amid Parent Concerns

Three routes will be adjusted soon and the district plans to look at bus routes in the spring to make improvements for fall 2014.

Montville Board President Karen Cortellino attended a Home and School meeting and said “one concern they raised was transportation …  with the timing of the pick up of some of the elementary routes.”

She brought up that issue at Tuesday night’s school board meeting and Business Administrator Jim Tevis said that they had “looked at all the elementary school routes because of the recent changes we had to make in getting kids to school.”

"We identified three routes in one of the schools that we are going to amend,” he said. “We plan on making that change right after Thanksgiving break.”

He added that a notification is being sent out to parents in the “next week or so.”

“It’s going to be a small difference. We’ll pick up children five minutes later than they are.”

He added that they’re adjusting only three routes because “we’re afraid to make changes any more extensive than that this time because it’s so tight getting these children to school.”

However, moving forward, “we are going to take a look at what we can do in redesigning and rebidding some of these routes this spring and make some improvements come next September.”
