Michelle Fund Helps Montville Sports

Hilldale and Woodmont faced off for funds.

The 18th annual Michelle Sullivan basketball game took place Thursday in the Montville Township High School gymnasium. This long-standing tradition pitted dads from Woodmont against dads from Hilldale. Many players have participated for several years.  The event drew hundreds of young spectators from both elementary schools, as well as elementary alumni, parents and grandparents.

According to Margaret Gorski, who has helped chair the event for the past six years, the annual showdown raises over $3,000 for the Michelle Fund,  a local charity that gives grants to sports teams and athletic initiatives.

The Michelle Fund is named in memory of Michelle Sullivan, a young Pine Brook resident who was killed by a car on Manchester Way in 1993.

According to the program, The Michelle Fund has sponsored “girls’ softball and basketball tournaments, traveling teams, field hockey programs, girls’ lacrosse programs, team trips, rugby programs, the lighting of the high school football field, and many other athletic endeavors for Montville’s youth. Additionally, the fund gives an annual award to “a graduating eigth-grade female student from Lazar Middle School who best exemplifies Michelle’s personality.”
