Last Chance: Speak Your Mind on School Budget Monday

Public hearing to begin at 7 p.m.

The public will have its last chance to voice opinions on the proposed 2012-13 school budget before it is adopted by the board of education during a public hearing Monday at 7 p.m.

The proposed budget already saw a number of changes after the district learned Montville schools would be receiving thousands of additional dollars in state aid. Those changes include eliminating student activity fees, lowering student parking fees and possibly additional money to be used for Rosetta Stone world language programs.

The proposed budget is under the 2 percent state-mandated cap and represents an $83 increase in school taxes on the average assessed home in the township. As long as the budget stays within the 2 percent cap, the budget will not go before voters after the district decided to eliminate the budget vote and move school board member elections to November.

Monday's meeting will be held in the cafeteria.
