Hilldale, Lazar Roof Projects Near Completion

Lazar should be finished by September 4, Hilldale by September 10.

According to James Tevis, Montivlle Township Board of Education business administrator, the two roof projects at Robert R. Lazar Middle School and Hilldale Elementary that the board implemented earlier this summer should be finished by the first week of school.

"Both the projects are about virtually completed," he said at the board's meeting on August 31.

Tevis said that the Lazar project had a tentative completion date of September 4, this Sunday. He said the fluidity of the completion date was due to the possibility of incimlate weather.

The Hilldale project should be completed around September 10.

"We plan to finish construction at Hilldale using that Thursday and Friday (September 9 and 10), which the school has off," Tevis said.

He stressed that no construction would take place while children were in the building.

The board awarded unanimously voted, at its meeting on July 13, to award the contract to Jottan Inc. construction company of Florence, New Jersey. According to Tevis, the low bids will allow the board to fully complete both projects.

"Originally, before the budget issues, the board had a master plan to do sections A, B and C, if you will, of the middle school roof," he said. "When we got into the bad budget, we made the decision to back off on, say, section C. Due to the low bid, we can now complete the project fully."

The project's original tentative completion date was September 1.
