Contract for 2-Story Football Field Press Box Awarded

Montville Board of Ed authorized awarding a $120,000 contract for the project.

A new, two-story press box for the Montville Township High School football field is coming.

The Montville Township Board of Education authorized the district business administrator to execute a $120,000 contract with Degler-Whiting Inc. of Fraser, Pa., for the project.

The district ended up negotiating with contractors directly because two tries at publicly advertising for bids didn't yield any proposals that included two stories, as required, business administrator Jim Tevis said.

The award includes $75,000 for the base bid with a $10,000 allowance, and $45,000 for the second story, Tevis said. Degler-Whiting submitted the lowest proposal during negotiations, according to the resolution approved by the board.

Tevis has said the press box replacement is needed and was budgeted for independent of the installation of the new synthetic turf field. Coaches had filmed from the roof of the press box, but eventually weren't allowed on the roof because it was not in good condition, he said.
