With Turf in Mind, School Board Postpones Meeting

Board will handle more business in August so it can focus on the turf field referendum in September, the business administrator said.

The Montville Board of Education will strive next week to finish as much regular business as possible so it can focus on the turf field referendum in September, district officials said.

Instead of meeting Tuesday, as originally planned, the board will meet a week later, on Aug. 30, according to James Tevis, school business administrator. Postponing the meeting a week will allow the board to address personnel issues in August that otherwise would have come up during the board's Sept. 6 meeting, Tevis said.

The rescheduled meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. at .

On Sept. 27, voters will decide whether the school board ought to spend $990,000 to install an artificial turf field at the high school. The district has a surplus of about $1.5 million due to a change in employee health insurance carrier, and school officials say replacing a grass field with artificial turf will allow more students to use the field.
