Webber's Correct: NJ Has $1B Debt for Unemployment

PolitiFact gives "True" rating to statement made by Montville's assemblyman.

Assemblyman , who represents Montville and other towns in District 26, was correct when he told NJToday the state is "over a billion dollars in debt to the federal government" due to borrowing money for its unemployment insurance trust fund, according to a report by PolitiFact New Jersey.

Webber (R-Morris Plains) received a "True" rating from PolitiFact, which evaluates the accuracy of statements made by public officials.

The state has been paying off the debt. It owed $2.1 billion in April and expects to pay back the remaining $1.3 billion toward the end of 2013, the report said.

Webber made the statement by way of explaining why he opposes a bill that provides unemployment benefits for some employees whose hours are reduced.
