VIDEO: Beam Replaced at William Mason, New Roof at Woodmont

Scenes from the construction sites.

Two construction projects are underway at Montville schools: the completion of a project to replace a rusted steel beam at , and a partial roof replacement at .

The beam replacement required the removal of a retaining wall and sidewalks. The more than $300,000 project is expected to cost more than originally planned due to an issue with the type of fill at the site, but work is on schedule for school to open Sept. 7, school business administrator James Tevis said.

The district decided to replace the beam after architects discovered the beam was exposed to the weather and starting to rust. Workers replaced the beam on Friday.
