Area Navy Vet recieves medal for service during World War II

The Morris County Freeholders presented eight veterans, including Navy veteran John Jandura Jr., of Towaco, with the county Distinguished Military Service medal on August 11.

According to a release from the county, the recognition program has been running since 1999. The medals are given to current or former county residents, living or deceased, who participated in the 1944 D-Day invasion during World War II.

The release says that eligibility is based on an honorable discharge from the military, as well as proof of service of active duty during periods that have been designated by the county Department of Veterans Affairs.
