Residents: If Christie Says He's Not Ready, He's Probably Not

Montville residents react to Gov. Chris Christie's announcement Tuesday.

Karl Larson, a retired Montville police officer, heard Gov. Chris Christie say on several occasions he's not running for president.

So when Christie that he wasn't running after giving the thought more consideration, Larson wasn't surprised and said he felt the governor probably made the right move.

"I think he made a good decision," Larson said.

If Christie decided to run, all the times he said he wasn't ready could have been an issue, Larson said.

Larson said he agrees with Christie on some issues and disagrees on others, but both agree there's more work to be done to get New Jersey's financial situation in order.

Christie on Tuesday said he couldn't bring himself to leave the office he was elected to serve.

"The people sent me to Trenton to get a job done, and I'm just not ready to walk away," Christie said.

Township resident Elaine Martino said she doesn't tend to agree with Christie's policies, but said she agreed with Christie's assessment that he's not ready to run for president and that he should focus on what New Jersey residents need. Martino said she would like to see more compromise in Trenton.

Resident Lisa Pandise said Christie knows if he's ready to run for president. If he says he's not ready, there's no reason for people to want to elect him to that office, she said.
