Morris Freeholder Sued Over Election Dispute Legal Fees

Law firm that helped defend Hank Lyon claims he owes them more than $161,000 in legal fees, report says.

A Morris County Freeholder who won his elected seat after a nine-month court battle is being sued by the law firm that defended him in the election case, according to The Star-Ledger.

Hank Lyon, of Montville, and his father are being sued for $161,130 which the firm Barry, McTiernan and Wedinger, of Edison, claims is owed to them after representing the official when his 2011 primary election win by four votes was challenged by former Freeholder Margaret Nordstrom. Nordstrom was removed from her position in February 2012, despite a Superior Court assignment judge supporting her challenge, and Lyon won the nomination for the seat.

One of the lawyers of the firm suing Lyon told The Star-Ledger that he had tried to settle the debt with Lyon and his father, but that the issue now requires legal action. The suit was filed in Middlesex County, according to The Star-Ledger.
