Montville Taxes Due Wednesday

Interest fees will be imposed for late taxes.

summer property tax deadline is approaching Wednesday and the tax collector's office is advising residents that a fee could be imposed if taxes are not paid by the date.

While the due date is technically Aug. 1, the township committee passed a resolution that allowed for a grace period for residents making tax payments. But according to Tax Collector Account Clerk Susan Weatherford, if taxes are not paid by Aug. 15, the number of late days reverts back to the day they were due on Aug. 1.

If taxes are paid on Aug. 16, for example, an interest rate of 8 percent per annum would be charged on the first $1,500 due and 18 percent per annum would be charged on additional money owed past the first $1,500.
