Grass-cutting Contract Will Save Twp. $8K

Township saving money on service in second year of privatized lawn care.

Montville Township is planning to save some money this year on lawn care after the committee discussed awarding a bid that came in $8,000 less than what the township paid last year to an outside contractor.

Township Administrator Victor Canning shared the cost figures with township committee members Tuesday night and said the lowest responsible bid came in this year at $41,327 for grass-cutting by Cutting Edge Lawn & Landscaping, compared with $49,373 paid to an outside company last year. This represents a 16 percent reduction, Canning said.

This year will be the second that the township has privatized grass-cutting in an effort to save money. Canning was pleased that the township was able to receive a bid that lowered the cost even further than previously.

"[It is] an $8,000 savings to do the same work that we were doing last year," Canning said.
