Former committee member successfully organized a write-in campaign.

The following was submitted to Patch:

The Montville Township Democratic Party stood the risk of having no local candidates for this November’s Montville Township Committee Election.  A Write In campaign was organized for the Primary Election and Dan Grant, lifelong resident and former Democratic Office Holder was written in to fill one of two spots on the November Ballot.  Grant said, “It is my hope to put a dent in the unbroken One Party Republican rule of our Township but it cannot be done without the help of you the voters of Montville Township.”

Grant is a lifelong resident of Montville Township and a Member of the Democratic County Committee for over 40 years.

Grant served as Township Committee Liaison to the Board of Adjustment, Youth Resources, Long Term Financial Planning Committee, Housing Committee and Open-space Committee at various times in his tenure.

He served as Deputy Mayor for two terms, chosen by the Township Committee Members themselves. For thirteen of those years he was the only Democrat on the five Member Governing Body. He presently is serving as a member of the Historical Preservation Commission.

Grant said, “When the Republicans took complete control 8 years ago they made promises they have not kept. They promised a transparency they have not delivered on and true transparency only comes from two party Government.  The issues will be explored during the campaign but the central issue is the need for two party Open Government and someone on the inside of their closed door meetings. “
