11 Years in Montville Was 'Awesome Experience,' Assistant Admin Says

Adam Brewer's last Township Committee meeting is Tuesday night before starting new job in West Caldwell.

Montville Township's outgoing assistant administrator Adam Brewer is expected to attend his last Township Committee meeting Tuesday night before starting his new job as administrator in West Caldwell.

Brewer, who originally was hired more than 11 years ago to head up the township's youth services program after having worked as a drug and alcohol counselor, served as the township's interim administrator for six months after former administrator Frank Bastone retired.

"Working here for over 11 years has been an awesome experience," Brewer said in a recent interview.

He is grateful to the mayor, Township Committee, administrator Victor Canning, Bastone, all of his past supervisors, and the community, he said.

"Montville is going to miss him greatly," Canning said, adding that he is a very important part of the administrative team. Canning said he expects to advertise for the job opening this fall.

Montville Township has many volunteers and community members who are "interested in helping Montville Township as a whole," Brewer said, pointing to a time when Montville Township opened a shelter during Superstorm Sandy and hundreds of people received meals provided by volunteers.

"In my opinion, that's what the community was all about," he said.

Brewer's last day in Montville is Tuesday, Aug. 13. He starts in West Caldwell the next day.

"I'm very excited for the opportunity," Brewer said.
