Police Save Life of Fellow Officer's Mother

Montville policemen Marucci, Cooney and DeMagistris helped save the life of the mother of Sargent Mark Olsson.

Three Montville police officers assisted in saving the life of the mother of one of their own on Saturday.

According to a statement released by the Montville Police Department, Patrolman Marucci responded to an emergency call for an unconscious 60-year-old woman at 4 p.m. When he arrived at the scene, the officer discovered that the woman was the mother of Sgt. Mark Olsson.

According to the statement, Marucci checked the woman and found that she had no color, no pulse and was not breathing. Marucci began to administer CPR before using his emergency defibrillator. The report says that Officer Cooney arrived on the scene and assisted in resuscitating the woman.

The report says that, after administering CRP and three shocks from the defibrillator, Marucci felt a pulse. Officer DeMagistris arrived on the scene and assisted with the family, consoling them and keeping them informed on what was happening.

Medics and members of the First Aid Squad arrived on scene and, due to the nature of the call, transported Olsson to St. Claire's hospital, according to the report.

According Sgt. Olsson, the woman was alert and talking by Sunday morning at 7 a.m., and was even able to call and thank Marucci later that morning.
