Motorcycle Crashes and Memorials: The Week in Review

A rundown of stories from September 7 to 12.

In case you missed anything last week, here is a breakdown of some of the stories covered on Montville Patch over the last few days.

Former Montville resident Michael Yodice, 22 has been charged with manslaughter after an attempted robbery in Pine Brook resulted in the death of Montville resident Christopher Vielee. According to an affidavit filed by the Montville Police department, Yodice and Vielee allegedly attempted to rob the 7-Eleven on Changebridge Road before fleeing the police on a motorcycle. Yodice, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle and crashed. Vielee was pronounced dead on the scene.

The township paid tribute to those killed in the Sept. 11 attacks with a ceremony in the community park on September 11. Members of the township committee and the VFW, as well as family members of the six Montville residents killed placed flags and wreaths in the park's Freedom Plaza in remembrance of the event.

Montville Township High School sports got off to a good start. The Mustangs football team bested James Caldwell High School in its season opener, while Montville's tennis team took four out of five matches against Pope John XXIII high school in Sparta. The boys and girls cross country teams faired well in its respective races at the .

Montville Township High School graduate Cori Ryan has been making money while attending Marymount Manhattan College in New York City by doing freelance photography work. In little over a year, she has progressed to making as much as $150 a headshot.

Board of Education business administrator James Tevis was able to in unnecessary fees for the township school district. The found money will go toward funding the 2011-2012 budget.
