The Changebridge Road resident got out of her silver 2011 Acura RDX near the southbound ramp of I-287 to put up a yard sale sign by the ‘Montville’ sign.

She needed help so her sister-in-law got out of the passenger side, police said. While walking toward the ‘Montville’ sign, a “person jumped into the driver’s side of her car and made an abrupt U-turn while (one of the women) chased on foot,” Officer Robert Szczur said in his police report.

The car thief went onto I-287 South. One of the women waved down a man standing at the light and told him that her car was just stolen, so that man followed her car. However, he lost sight of the stolen car on I-80 eastbound in Parsippany.

East Orange Police and Newark Police were alerted of the incident.

Including the car, the total value of items stolen is $41,558.
