Montville Police Warn of IRS Phone Scam

Scam is asking residents to make a payment over the phone.

The Montville Police are warning residents of an IRS scam that is soliciting payment over the phone.

Residents have been receiving calls from people stating they are either the police or Internal Revenue Service Agents and requesting money via a gift card to settle an account.

"This is hoax. The Montville Police do not collect for the IRS," according to a Nixle alert sent out Wednesday. "The IRS does not solicit payment via the phone. Do not give the caller any personal information. Do not send any type of payment. Montville Police are investigating the hoax."
