Montville FD Brings Boat for Stuck Driver

River Road was blocked off due to flooding Sunday.

A motorist who drove on a closed portion of River Road got stuck in the flood waters on Sunday afternoon and the Montville Fire Department was bringing a boat to rescue the woman, police said.

River Road is one of more than a dozen streets closed in town due to fallen trees and flooding, and some motorists have not obeyed the closure signs, Montville Police Lt. Rudy Appelmann said. Police have issued summonses to motorists who did not follow the signs, he said.

There are concerns that the flooding undermined River Road.

“They’re driving onto something that might not be there,” he said.

He said the road closures aren’t expected to be lifted any time soon and that drivers should expect detours and delays. He said motorists should stay off the roads tomorrow, too, if they don’t have to be at work.
