Montville Bus Shelter Smashed By Drunken Lake Hiawatha Man, Cops Say

Car stopped as part of St. Patrick's Day drunken driving detail.

A Lake Hiawatha man was charged with DWI after police said he drove his car through a glass bus shelter in Montville and then left the scene of the crash on St. Patrick's Day.

Daniel Greenzweig, 27, was charged with driving with a suspended license and other motor vehicle violations in addition to the DWI charge, according to a release from Fairfield Police Deputy Chief Anthony Manna.

Manna said Fairfield Police Ptl. John McGrory was on patrol on Route 46 just before 1 a.m. as part of a drunken driving enforcement detail set up for the holiday weekend when he saw Greenzweig driving a Chevrolet Camaro faster than the 50 mph limit. Greenzweig was also not driving within his lane of traffic, Manna said.

Greenzweig's car was stopped and McGrory noticed shards of glass on the front of the Camaro, Manna said. The Camaro matched the description of a car noted in an alert sent out earlier in the night by the Montville Township Police Department about a vehicle that struck a glass bus stop shelter in Montville and fled the scene.

Montville police arrived to meet McGrory and confirmed Greenzweig's car to be that which was involved in the crash, Manna said. Greenzweig was arrested and transported to Fairfield police headquarters.
