Knife-Wielding Man Allegedly Attempted to Rob McDonald's

Police said man could not access cash registers, fled scene in beige, mid-sized vehicle.

A knife-wielding masked man's attempt to rob a Lincoln Park fast food restaurant failed Tuesday night, police said.

According to Lincoln Park Police, the man displayed a knife and demanded money from a Boonton Turnpike McDonald's employee just before 10 p.m. The man, however, was unable to access the registers and took off, police said.

The man is decribed as slender, approximately 6 feet tall and of an unknown race, police said. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweat jacket, dark-colored shorts and a ski mask, police said.

A store employee told police there were no customers in the business at the time, but the employee ran from the restaurant and contacted police.

After unsuccessfully attempting to access the registers, police believe the man fled the scene in a mid-sized, beige vehicle.

Lincoln Park police have also been investigating in which a man in a cowboy hat allegedly entered the banks and demanded money without showing a weapon. But police do not believe Tuesday's attempted robbery at McDonald's is connected.

"At this time, we do not believe last night's incident is related to the previous bank incidents that occurred last month," Sgt. Bill Karback said.

The Lincoln Park Police Department Detective Bureau, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Morris County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene and an investigation is ongoing.
