Indictments Handed Down for Former Parsippany Assistant Fire Chief

A Morris County grand jury Thursday indicted a suspended county sheriff's officer and former Parsippany assistant fire chief on charges of official misconduct, drug possession and other offenses, reported NJ.com.

The indictment against Jason Campbell, 33, also a former Morris County Explorer advisor, is connected to his arrest in Hanover last March after being caught during a traffic stop with oxycodone in his pickup truck. The Morris County Prosecutor's Office said Campbell falsely identified himself to a state trooper by showing a Sheriff's Office badge. 

Campbell was charged at the time with third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, third-degree conspiracy to possess a controlled dangerous substance, second-degree official misconduct and fourth-degree impersonating a police officer.

The indictment against Campbell is on charges of official misconduct, obstruction of a government investigation, drug possession and conspiracy to possess drugs.

His 32-year old wife Jennifer, who was a passenger in the truck, was indicted for alleged drug possession.

The March incident is not Campbell's only brush with the law. He had been charged with aggravated arson after being accused of deliberately setting fires at separate Lake Hiawatha locations in 2008 and 2010 and then returning to put out the fires. in late March. 

He still faces a trial related to this incident on Oct. 30 in Sussex County Superior Court, according to NJ.com. The remaining charges against him in this case include one count of second-degree attempted aggravated arson and two counts of second-degree conspiracy to commit aggravated arson.

Campbell served as assistant chief for Parsippany's Lake Hiawatha Fire District 5 and was a supervisor of a Morris County Sheriff's Office youth program.
